CONTACT SHEETS
Traditionally associated with analogue photography, contact sheets are editing tools that allow the miniature images of a session to be viewed on a single sheet. They constitute a highly valuable source of information for understanding the process of creating a photograph, as well as the photographer’s successes and doubts. In Horst’s case, these sheets reveal a more complicit and relaxed gaze, far removed from the idealised image that defines his style. In these documents, the warmth and trust that Horst typically conveyed to his models become evident.
